Monthly Labor Market Overview
The most recent labor market report from North Carolina’s Department of Commerce shows data for the month of February.
Wake County’s unemployment rate remained steady at 3.0%, the same as January and still well below the state and nation. Wake’s labor force, which includes those actively looking for work, consists of 610,391 individuals, an increase of 5,121 over the previous month. In February 2021, the labor force was only 582,812 making year-over-year growth 27,579 or 4.7%. In addition, the Raleigh MSA added 4,900 jobs over the previous month.
Johnston County’s unemployment rate maintained a rate of 3.2%, still well below the state and nation. The county’s labor force, which includes those actively looking for work, consists of 104,121 individuals, an increase of 659 over the previous month. In February 2021, the labor force was only 99,721, making year-over-year growth 4,400 or 4.4%.
When combined, the unemployment rate for CAWD is 3.0%, down from 3.1% with 21, 446 unemployed individuals and a labor force of over 714,000 individuals. Approximately 5,800 people were added to the labor force over the previous month.
