Healthcare Industry Rallies Behind New Workforce Initiative
The Healthcare Workforce Collaborative is a pilot program to address the growing demand for nurses. CAWD has committed $250,000 in WIOA funding to support the recruitment, education, and retention of nursing professionals. The collaborative meets quarterly and stakeholder participation is exceptionally strong throughout our region.
- Education Partners – NC Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Wake AHEC, Wake Technical Community College, Durham Technical Community College, Johnston Community College, and Central Carolina Community College
- Professional Organizations: NC Board of Nursing and NC Nurses Association
- Healthcare Providers: Duke Health, UNC Health Johnston, NeighborHealth Center, Transitions LifeCare, Well Care Health, and CASA
Members plan to implement the following strategies:
- Members partner with the Wake AHEC (Area Health Education Center) to offer RN Refresher Program to retired nurses interested in rejoining the workforce
- Financial support for nursing students struggling to afford education costs
- Identify CNAs and direct care professionals interested in becoming Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)
- NC Chamber of Commerce, NC Center on the Workforce for Health, and the Wake AHEC will provide a Talent Pipeline Manager to support candidate engagement efforts
