Cohort #2 Begins Apprenticeship Prep Program!
CAWD’s Apprenticeship Prep Program (APP) provides young people aged 18-24 with education and career readiness skills. At the end of the program, they are prepared for a pre-apprenticeship, full apprenticeship, employment, or continued education. The current program is for the electrical career pathway and the second cohort started in March.
In addition to classroom training with a Raleigh-Durham Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) instructor, they are receiving onsite work experience at Sir Raleigh Electric in Garner. Graduation is scheduled for June 2nd.
CAWD is also making headway in developing an APP for information technology. Two training providers have been selected: RTriad and Wake Tech. RTriad, a black-owned IT company out of Greensboro, will provide classroom training, virtual internships, and mentoring to the first cohort. Wake Tech will provide training and partner with CAWD to provide paid work experiences with employers.
CAWD plans on having an APP for each of the region’s high-growth industries – IT, Skilled Trade/Construction, Advanced Manufacturing, and Healthcare/Life Sciences. Participants will be able to apply for the program that matches their career interests.
